How to Apply for SIMS Registration in India Online?

Planning to import steel?

SIMS registration is essential. SIMS (Steel Import Monitoring System) was launched by the Government of India to monitor steel imports into India. Importers must register for SIMS on the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) portal and obtain a URN number, which is required for customs clearance.

What is SIMS Registration Online forIndia?

The SIMS registration is an online compliance requirement for steel import compliance laws. All importers of steel must register with the government, showing that they have imported steel into India. To import, one must complete this registration before sending steel to India. This registration does not create a certificate of origin or a restriction on the importer of the steel, but is one more part of a chain of custody for tracking the importer of steel's shipment into the country. After completing the SIMS registration, the importer will receive a Unique Registration Number (URN) to provide to Customs in order for it to clear.

Required Documents for Online SIMS Registration

Importing products such as steel requires manufacturers, distributors, and sellers to provide documentation during the SIMS registration process. Required documents for registration include:

1. Importer-Exporter Code (IEC): Issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), this code confirms a company's eligibility to import goods into India.

2. Digital Signature Certificate (DSC): The DSC must be digitally signed on all registration documents.

3. Proof of Business: A copy of either the company's Registration document or GST certificate must be submitted.

4. HSN Code: An 8-digit HSN code is required for every steel product being shipped.

5. Product Details: Comprehensive product description, including HS Code(s), quantity, value, country of manufacture, and supplier's contact information.

6. Invoice/Bill of Lading: Either a proforma invoice or a commercial invoice with an accompanying bill of lading must be submitted to customs for clearance purposes.

7. Manufacturer Details: This section contains the name, contact information, and website address of the company's actual manufacturer.

8. Product Specifications: Information provided here includes product dimensions, grade, material properties, etc.

9. NOC (No Objection Certificate): Unless an exemption is applicable, an NOC issued by the Ministry of Steel is required.
